Anyone can make it in Bollywood, plus I have a theory that Bollywood is actually a conspiracy by homosexuals and drag queens to soften us up for the big civil war, in which we will be forced to accept the principles of wearing tight t-shirts and dancing like an Asian boy from Birmingham visiting Heaven nightclub in Charing Cross for the fist time, as over made up shrieking drag queens, also known as Bollywood actresses, pretend to be virgins as they grind their hips over us.

Bollywood is like cornershop owners turned billionaires --- too common for words :-)

all this sort of stuff seems to focus on some funny ideas of 'success' in any case. of course we indians are all obsessed with being 'first' in this that and the other. 'first class first' boy you never hear the end of that from anyone who's ever had it. obsessed. and 'roll no.'s - what a strange concept.

Yeah, admittedly the story's not as romantic as the Jamaican Bobsled team, but for Bangladesis who have few current pop cultural references, shit like this does register quite highly. But its more like home videos of the last family wedding; Outside of those with an interst, it makes for a very dull afternoon in.

jawed sounds like a very strange bengali name. is it meant to be javed? i thought the v/w syndrome didn't occur in bengali but hindi more like. (ya know - diwana/divana etc. etc. )

and besides, i can't really find too much enthusiasm for a bunch of techies funded by shit loads of money from some venture capital firms. much more respect for the open-source geeks out there. ( regardless of their ethnicity may i point out)

heh heh good point Jagdeep, its hardly a big deal since the days of the dot.com boom bam shebang.. in any case surely desis are doing perfectly well in so many areas. does anyone write a post when they go to their doctor and find out they're asian? or go to university and find out a sizeable portion of the medics are asian? ditto for law, accounting and what have you. or are we used to that sort of thing.

Yeah, but I still find it a source of interest when a desi does well in something, especially from the same background - Monty Panesar, Kiran Dessai, whoever. But this youtube thing, its all abot, blegh, you know, who cares? Just another desi computer nerd, they are ten a penny these days :-)
